« Online Debate: Why Fewer Protesters at Recent Bush Visit? | Main | John Rosenthal: Cowboys in Deutschland »

Wow. Pretty nice words for the lead terrorist of an internationally-recognized terrorist organization. I wonder what you have to do to get on these folks' bad side? Well, besides being from, or supporting, the US or Israel.

Was heißt eigentlich "anti-Israeli"? Wünscht sich Bettina Marx denn wirklich etwa die Zerstörung Israels, nur weil sie die Politik der Regierung kritisiert hat?

the Hezbollah is not just a "terrorist organization", but also a political party (they're in the government in Lebanon) and a charity organization. Besides, George W. Bush is called a terrorist by a lot of people worldwide...

"Besides, George W. Bush is called a terrorist by a lot of people worldwide..."

AmaPhil, if that is your argumentation, then my recommendation for you would be to eat fecal matter. After all, billions and billions of flies can't possibly be wrong.
Concerning the Hiz'b'allah, a charity? GAG. And when operatives collect money "for charity" it doesn't matter that the "charity" buys matierals to kill Israeli soldiers as well as innocent civilians, right? A charity is a charity. Sorry, AmaPhil, these scum are terrorists. I scoff heavily at equating "collecting money" with "charity" even when some alleged "good deed" of the Terrorists is plastered all over the Dhimmipress here in the West.
Apparently in your eyes, all these Islamofascists continually firing rockets into Israel are also "civilians" because they aren't wearing uniforms, right? They deserve our sympathy and proper protection of the law! Get these people some lawyers and UN diplomats!

Such moral relativism really gives me the beak. Or to coin a German expression, I can't eat anywhere near as much as I would like to throw up.

Scout, I think you don't even WANT to understand me.

"Besides, George W. Bush is called a terrorist by a lot of people worldwide..."

"AmaPhil, if that is your argumentation, then my recommendation for you would be to eat fecal matter. After all, billions and billions of flies can't possibly be wrong."

Uhm, okay, so you're comparing people with fecal-matter-eating flies, allright? Those billions and billions of flies you're writing about aren't wrong indeed. Well, I'm not one of them, so why should I follow your gentle recommendation ??? I also NEVER called Bush a terrorist...

The one has absolutly nothing to do with the other. My point was only what's the *definition* of terrorist? Do you wanna insult or you wanna discuss?

And now read this:

"Hezbollah not only has armed and political wings but also boasts an extensive social development programme. The civilian wing also runs hospitals, news services, and educational facilities. Its Reconstruction Campaign (Jihad al-Bina) is responsible for numerous economic and infrastructural development projects in Lebanon. The group currently operates at least four hospitals, 12 clinics, 12 schools and two agricultural centres that provide farmers with technical assistance and training. It also has an environmental department and an extensive social assistance programme. Medical care is also cheaper than in most of the country's private hospitals and free for Hezbollah members. Most experts believe that Hezbollah's social and health programmes are worth hundreds of millions of dollars annually. Hezbollah mainly gets its money from donations."

This has nothing to do with "moral relativism".

@AmaPhil: True, you never directly called Bush a terrorist. However, the tone, context, and your later response indicate to me that you have a lot of sympathy for those who do. Will you also deny that?
The flattering Wikipedia description of all the Good Things done by Hez'b'allah notwithstanding, I disagree with your assessment. It has everything to do with moral relativism... on the part of those who contend the Hiz'b'allah are not that bad; after all, they run a few hospitals.
So these terrorists are smart propagandists; we knew that already. No surprise. Winning the hearts and minds of locals is never a bad idea. But running those programmes you quoted doesn't _in any respect_ reduce their culpability for terrorist acts against Israel and the West. A terrorist with rockets AND a hospital sworn to the destruction of Israel is still a terrorist.
After all, Hitler had the Autobahns built, didn't he? Wasn't that a good thing? And wasn't the economy really humming there for a few years under his leadership? And unemployment certainly wasn't a problem!
Something or someone fundamentally evil remains evil even if "good things" sometimes happen on their watch. That goes for Hitler, and also for Hiz'b'allah. If you can't accept that, then you're engaging in moral relativism.

I find it interesting in your defense of Hizbollah it sounds very similar to the defense used in 30's to defend the Nazi party.

Well said, Scout.

AmaPhil mentions that Hiz'b'allah is also a political party that is a part of the Lebanese government. There is another aspect to the fact that Hiz'b'allah is not only a terrorist organization, but is also active in the Lebanese government: when they attacked Israel, it was an act of war.

"FREEDOM FIGHTERS": one of the many phrases the left has so abused that it no longer even means what it means. Might I please add "indescriminate bombing", "war crimes" and "genocide" to that list?

The dumbasses are working on "human shield". I hear Nasrallah, and other logically challenged among the international left and Hezballah, have designed a new marketing campaign calling "human shields" "neighbors". Will it work? Possibly. The truth of Orwell is yet to be revealed, methinks.

My point was only what's the *definition* of terrorist?

Sorry I'm late to the party. A terrorist is a subnational who threatens or employs deadly force against civilians in order to coerce a political goal.
