Is it really going to help relations? A fact that is unknown to some folks, Hitlerian remarks are not bandied about as a general insult in America. It usually takes a targeted comment to elicit a rejoinder of that nature. And self criticism is not the same as self-hatred or anti-Americanism. I read the carnival and the comments with interest, but I don't think that it will help to do anything but cement established views.
