So far on this election day (3:06 PM Berlin time) there seems to be disagreement about voter turnout. ARD and Sueddeutsche and FAZ are reporting that there is no clear trend while SPIEGEL ONLINE is reporting a higher than usual turnout. If you are a German reader of this site who hasn't voted yet, you still have time...so make sure you vote!
Update (4:22 PM Berlin time): Now SPIEGEL ONLINE is reporting that voter turnout is, in fact, a little below expectations. ZDF agrees. The media now seems to agree that the turnout up until 2 PM Berlin time was a percentage point lower than four years ago at the same time of day. Whether that trend will hold remains to be seen in the final hours until polls close at 6 PM Berlin time.
Update #2 (4:57 PM Berlin time): Stern magazine online is serving as SPD cheerleader to the very end, writing a prominent headline piece on how the voter turnout could be to the advantage of the SPD. ONE HOUR TO GO! LAST CALL FOR VOTERS! We should have some preliminary results in about an hour...stay tuned...we will have all of the information and analysis on results and political consequences for you as they are announced!
Hi David:
Is there a website that will report the election results (seat changes, percent of voters received, etc. as they come in?
Please let me know.
