Two or three years ago, this would have caused a stir in Germany. It would cause a stir right now, if some dumb German neo-nazi skinhead had made these remarks.

Algerian defendant praised Holocaust 2 March 2004

DUESSELDORF - An Algerian alleged to have been the weapons supplier to a Jordan-based terrorist group told German police he approved of the Holocaust, according to testimony during maximum-security proceedings before a court in Germany. ...

... a federal police interrogator said the man had declared his sympathy for the Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, and had said it was good that the Nazi had murdered Jews. ...

Prosecutors say the cell plotted variously to bomb a Dusseldorf nightclub, a bar in that city frequented by Jews or a Jewish community centre in Berlin. None of the attacks was ever carried out, as the group was arrested in 2002 before its hand grenades arrived.

It's not that politicians or the press in Germany nowadays sympathize with anti-semitism - it's just that Islamic hatred of Jews simply does not get much attention. Think "cycle of violence"...

Vor zwei oder drei Jahren hätte dies in Deutschland hohe Wellen geschlagen. Es würde auch heute hohe Wellen schlagen, falls irgendein dummer deutscher Skinhead-Neonazi diese Bemerkungen gemacht hätte.

Die Staatsanwaltschaft erklärte, die Zelle plante verschiedentlich, einen Düsseldorfer Nachtclub zu bombardieren; eine Bar in der Stadt, die von Juden besucht wird. Außerdem (sollte bombardiert werden) das Jüdische Gemeindezentrum in Berlin. Keine der Anschläge wurde jemals ausgeführt, da die Grupppe 2002 verhaftet wurde, bevor die Handgranaten eintrafen. Es ist ja nicht so, daß Politiker oder die Presse in Deutschland heutzutage mit Antisemitismus sympathisierten - es ist halt eben so, daß islamischer Haß auf Juden schlichtweg wenig Aufmerksamkeit findet. Es kommt einem der "Kreislauf der Gewalt" in den Sinn...

I noticed this lack of attention several times. I mean the laws against "Volksverhetzung" don't seem to be worth the paper they are printed on when it comes to hardcore muslims. However, still they lock them up when they're planning or commiting terrrorist acts. I wonder how long it will take to declare such acts expressions of their will, constitutional protect rights.
