Spiegel Online’s recent article on the Bush-poll helped push Davids Medienkritik to a new single-day visitor record (more than 11.000 visitors, thank you) for March 8, 2004, and brought the site huge publicity Germany-wide. (Many US visitors also came to us via Instapundit and Andrew Sullivan)
The fact that Spiegel Online bothered to write an article attacking Davids Medienkritik clearly demonstrates the allergy-like hypersensitivity of its editors to anything and anyone opposing their ideology and worldview.
A comment posted by Bill on billspricht.net sums it up pretty well:
“And because they were embarrassed, humiliated and probably downright pissed-off (die Arme! :-( ), they had to react with vehemence. Not just a "ha, ha, okay you guys got us!", but a THIRTY PARAGRAPH ARTICLE, well-researched indeed, complete with definitions of such terms as "FREEP" and lots and lots of references to that crazy, Clinton-hating American right-wing. FreeRepublic.com, the website of "the ultraconservative activist Jim Robinson", earns most of their venom, with their compatriot David coming in a very close second.”
Spiegel also repeatedly called David’s action to support Bush “manipulation” and “freeping.” Both claims are categorically false, Davids Medienkritik never endorsed manipulation or unfair freeping practices in any way shape or form, which is clear to anyone who has read this website the past week. The claims are particularly hypocritical coming from a website that frequently and regularly erases the comments of those with dissenting opinions in its forums. And clearly, the poll’s current results show that the real “manipulation” and “freeping” is being perpetrated on a mass scale by an army of Spiegel’s most radical readers and not by the so-called “conservative click guerilla” that apparently haunts the wildest nightmares of Spiegel editors and writers.
Once again, the underdog carried the battle and the day. Medienkritik proved that bloggers can make a difference and provide a viable alternative to the hegemony of the leftist Euro-media and its hate-America mentality.
