Kofi Annan!

And the winner is...
Kofi Annan!
UN secretary general Kofi Annan will receive the German Media Award 2003 this Wednesday in Baden-Baden, Germany. Former US president Bill Clinton will hand him the award.
Annan will get the award for his failure to safeguard the UN employees in Iraq. No, I apologize, my mistake. He will get the award for his inactivity and helplessness during the genocide in Ruanda. Oops, wrong again - that's not the reason, either. Now, here is the real reason why Kofi Annan will get the German Media Award 2003:
Like no other politician Kofi Annan represents the basic idea of the United Nations, searching for a better organized and more peaceful world...
The award for Kofi Annan - who was against the invasion in Iraq - is a message of the German media to the world: Annan yes, Bush no. I expect lots of whining of the German media elite over the Iraq war this Wednesday in Baden-Baden...

Annan was our (U.S.) pick to head the U.N. At first, Europe didn't want him. It is hard to blame him for the failures of the U.N. If the states in the Security Council don't want to play ball, he is helpless to do anything.
I caught part of Sabine Christiansen's (sp?) interview with Annan late last night on Phoenix. She repeatedly revealed breathtaking hostility to the U.S. in her questions, trying to get Kofi to take pot shots at the U.S. for the way it "treated" the U.N. Kofi, as would be expected, declined to engage in America bashing, even though it was pretty obvious that he was pretty ragged from the Iraq experience.
Too bad I missed the introductions, most of Annan's and the laudatory speeches.
