Germans Want a Democrat in the White House

This certainly doesn't come as a surprise: Germans want a democrat in the White House.

In a poll by public tv channel ARD roughly two third of respondents preferred either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama to John McCain, who came in with 10 - 11 per cent. Most Germans probably hope a democrat as president would keep German troops out of Afghanistan's dangerous south, at the expense of American, Canadian and British troops.

Too bad ARD didn't offer a socialist candidate for choice. He would have scored big among the German public. My guess: 80 per cent, hands down.

How would Germans vote Hitler vs. Bush ? Hard to guess.

Probably a tie.

Thank you, German media.

I think the biggest reason for that is the German leftist state-owned Media. It's controlled by big government bureaucrazy and ruled by the old bunch of leftists who after 1968 started their "long march through the institutions" and fully succeeded in the German media.

There was a poll not long ago among German journalists about their political preferences. 2 out of 10 said "no answer." Those who gave their preferences voted as follows:

1% - Die Linke (former GDR communists)
45% - Die Grünen (enviro-stalinists, nanny-state socialists)
33% - SPD (labour)
11% - CDU/CSU (Christian conservatives)
8% - FDP (marketplace conservatives)

Germany has three state-owned-sponsored TV programs ('ARD', 'ZDF', 'Das Dritte'). They get about 80 to 90% of the viewers, especially since 'Das Dritte' is divided up into at least eight programs all of which can be received all over the country.

The situation with radio programs is similar. The state-owned-sponsored stations get about 80% to 90% of all listeners. There is no talkback radio here. The privately owned stations broadcast mainly music and dedicate only a very small amount of time to news or politics.

A well developed blogosphere like in the US is virtually nonexistent in Germany. Whitty comments and sharp analysis like those that got the ball rolling on Rathergate, Reutersgate or Qanagate are unimaginable over here.

There are virtually no alternative channels of information here. Virtually everything the Germans see and hear can be traced back to the same, governmentally-owned-subsidized, sources.

I strongly suggest that Germans repeat the successful campaign that the Guardian pursued in Ohio in 2004. Bring Germans over to campaign for the Democrats. Have them knock on doors, hold press conferences. It will undoubtedly increase support for the Democrats. Afterwards, Germans can pat themselves on the back and say to themselves, "Thanks to our efforts, the Yahoos in America were repulsed."

Actually, it appears Americans also want a Democrat in the White House. Participation in the Democratic caucuses and primaries has nearly doubled that in the Republican ones. Also, the fundraising by Democrats has dwarfed that of their counterparts.

Americans want change and in overwhelming numbers they reject the policies of the Bush administration.

maybe that water is wet and fire is hot.
But seriously, when one considers that the Sheeple have absolutely no influence whatsoever over their own government, it's natural for them to at least fantasize that they have influence over ours. After all, they are so much more sophisticated and clever and wise... and all those American voters that keep voting for conservatives are just uneducated, fat, gun-toting, Bible-thumping, war-mongering, SUV-driving, ignorant Untermenschen. The question whether the GOP actually has any conservative candidates I will leave for another discussion.
Even the American primaries get significant press coverage here in Germany. Unfortunately, the coverage is at worst completely fabricated, and at best a carefully filtered misrepresentation of certain facts selected to convince the Sheeple that the Democrats are the much more reasonable party, but don't worry, everything is much better in Germany anyway (where there are no primaries, and the voters have zero influence over whom the parties select to run for office).
When it comes to furthering the cause of Socialism and destroying the last vestiges of individual liberty and responsibility through Nanny State policies, the Democrats are the natural allies of the Eurosocialists. No surprises here.

Opening sentences got truncated from last comment. Should read:

"What? The Germans would prefer a Democrat? Next someone is going to claim that water is wet and fire is hot." Continued above.

Actually, it appears Americans also want a Democrat in the White House...Americans want change and in overwhelming numbers they reject the policies of the Bush administration.

You may be be correct. However, the last Democratic Presidential candidate to win a majority of the popular vote was Jimmy Carter (50.1%), in 1976. Coincidentally, that was the last time I voted for a Democratic Presidential candidate.

I participated in the Democratic caucus yesterday in Maine. Turnout was 4 times that of the Republican caucuses. In my town, the caucus got underway more than 2 hours late due to the surge of first-time voters, independents, and Republicans - all looking to register as Democrats so they could join the Democratic caucus. Why the surge in new voters? What I heard from many: disgust with the Bush administration.

NEDemocrat... even if Obama wins the delegate counts in the primaries, watch out for a Hillary takeover of the nomination via a super-delegate surge at the Democratic National Convention.

If that happens... and it might, given that Hillary is THE candidate of the George Soros machine... look for riots and promises from blacks that they won't vote Democrat for the next 200 years.

In other words, NED, I suspect that the Democrats are in much bigger trouble than Republicans ever thought of being.

@ NEDemocrat
Americans want change and in overwhelming numbers they reject the policies of the Bush administration.

Is this an example of those who reject the policies of the Bush administration?

“ A few days ago at the urging of Sean Hannity, Frank Luntz asked a polling group at a Democratic debate to name one of Senator Obama's accomplishments. A whole section was polled and no one could name a single feat. It didn't matter to them, they liked him. ”
@ LC Mamapajamas:
Here is an article that speaks to your hypothesis. The Beginning of the End of Multiculturalism. Let the fireworks begin! BTW, NEDemocrat, this blogger's father has some New England roots.

Be that as it may, NEDemocrat may well be correct that the Democrats will win in 2008, both among Bert and I and the Down Easters, and in the country as a whole.

And NED... here's one more item of information for you to digest:

It seems that there are a lot of Republicans out there so pissed off at the way some Democrats and left-leaning Independents hijacked the Republican nomination process in open primary states and got us McCain, a number of them have been fighting back.

There are numerous Republicans and right-leaning Independents who have decided, WHATEVER they might be telling Democrats at caucuses and pollsters, to invade the Democrat nominating process in the open primary states and vote for Obama, and are DOING so, for two reasons: One: To get back at McCain who is building his entire campaign around fighting Hillary, and Two: To give APPARENT support to Obama for the specific purpose of yanking the run out from under him in November (this is the suspicion Republicans have about the Democrats and Independents who voted for McCain in open primary states... that they did it to give false "support" only to withdraw it next November).

I've been reading this on numerous conservative web sites and heard hints of this from callers to talk radio. And from the complaints that I'VE been hearing from my fellow Republicans, I don't doubt this in the least!

I've got a very strong feeling that there are a LOT of people out there lying to pollsters. This could go a long way toward explaining why the pollsters have been wrong in the primary results in so many states.

This election year is getting VERY Byzantine!

Gringo, it may well be that NED is right that the Democrats will win (and God help us if they do!), but things are NOT as they seem.

Typo... "yanking the run out from under him"="yanking the RUG..." etc
