"My opponent admits Saddam Hussein was a threat, he just didn't support my decision to remove Saddam from power. Maybe he was hoping Saddam would lose the next Iraqi election."
I think that's funny...
But "the next Iraqi election" is precisely what many commentators in the German media seemed to hope for. Had the Americans not started the war, the Iraqis would have thrown out Saddam in the next election...

Ich halte das für ziemlich witzig...
Aber die "nächste Wahl im Irak" ist genau das, worauf sich die Hoffnungen vieler Kommentatoren in den deutschen Medien richteten. Wenn die Amerikaner nicht den Krieg begonnen hätten, hätten die Iraker Saddam bei der nächsten Wahl rausgeworfen...

David, don't be so sarcastic! Had the evil Americans not taken out Saddam's sons, there might indeed have been an alternative for the Iraqis in some upcoming election! ;)

LOL - not to mention that in the last election saddam got 99.5% of the vote. Now saddam may consider that a close race, but i wonder what happened to the couple of a hundred who dared to vote against him? Anyone?
